Cold water booster set replacement in Grangemouth

The job

A site in Grangemouth had a cold water booster set that was no longer keeping up. One of the pumps was at fault and the set had been running poorly for some time, which left the water supply across the building unreliable. What the customer needed was a replacement unit rather than another repair, and it had to go in without leaving the site short of water while people were working.

What we did

We looked over the existing pump set and found that parts for it were obsolete, so repairing it again was never going to give the site a dependable supply. Our recommendation was to replace the whole unit. We installed a new Lowara cold water booster set, adjusted the supply and feed pipework to suit the new skid and wired the set into a new control panel. The pipework into the set was run in fresh copper with flexible connectors and flanged joints onto the new manifold, so the whole installation is tidy and properly supported.

Challenges

The site could not be left without water during working hours, so the changeover was carried out out of hours and completed in one go. That meant stripping out the old set, adjusting the supply and feed pipework, fitting the new booster set and commissioning it in a single visit rather than spreading the work over several days.

The result

The job took one day. When the site team arrived the next morning the hot and cold water was back on, with enough pressure for staff to shower at the same time without the supply dropping off. The site carried on operating as normal throughout, which was the whole reason for doing the work out of hours.
